Immunisation

Program Overview and Rationale

Support General Practice to maintain high immunisation rates by delivering up-to-date information and maintaining public awareness.

Duration of Program and how it Operates

This Program is on-going and has been running since 1999 as part of our collaboration with the Area Health Service’s Public Health Unit.  The Division ensures information is delivered to GP practices and encourages and monitors the immunisation rates for 0-7 year olds through the Medicare Australia ACIR statistics.

How the Program / benefits GPs and their Patients

We assist General Practice in maintaining a high level of immunisation rates through providing timely information and identifying and assisting with the rectification of any problems and to encourage practices to use Medicare Australia’s electronic lodgement of immunisation encounters.

Current level of Program Participation / Utilisation

We are funded for 16 hours per week; this includes answering calls from and visits to GP practices.  Making available CPR training, RN training and regular annual up-date workshop.  Late 2005 every GP was visited to explain the new schedule and vaccinations that had been introduced.
